Chapter 9

Summary

Module 9 of “The Internet” describes the ins and outs of e-commerce and buying and selling items on the web. Business to Business e-commerce, Business to Consumer and Consumer to Consumer are all highlighted as ways that businesses and consumers buy and sell items on the internet. The author describes the most common form of e-commerce being online retail. I use online retail quite frequently – I buy so many items online such as clothes, electronics and I also have an Amazon Prime subscription. It is extremely easy to order something and have it at your door the next day, although there are some downsides to these websites such as multiple in-person stores closing due to no business.

Module 9 also describes the digital wallet and concerns from customers in regard to e-commerce. When buying items online, you must enter your credit card information – this information is usually encrypted and kept safe but can sometimes lead to merchants collecting data about you.

The chapter also describes the multitude of legal issues that come along with international commerce – tariffs and currencies being an issue for consumers and businesses. These are issues primarily for small business owners that ship packages to other countries.
